The Alberta Dental Association + College (ADA+C) assures the confidentiality of all information collected in the Self-Assessment process in keeping with the Health Professions Act.

ImageThe Self-Evaluation Professional Development Program is considered to be a protected, confidential program. No information submitted by individual members can be used as evidence in a case of conduct against that member, nor can an employer subpoena it for any disciplinary action.

The Health Professions Act (HPA) protects individual members from public access to the competency information held by the ADA+C.

"If a college, committee member or other person publishes, releases or discloses information in contravention of this section, that information may not be used in proceedings under any other Part of this Act or in any action, matter or proceedings before a court."

Section 52 (c) (3) Health Professions Amendment Act, 2001

In fact it is clearly stated in the HPA that breaching confidentiality of the competency information is an offense.

"A person who knowingly publishes, releases or discloses information in contravention of section 52 is guilty of an offense and is liable to a fine of not more that $10 000

Section 53 Health Professions Act 1999, p. 41
